About the Role:
Our client is seeking a skilled and motivated Fiber Optic Manufacturing Design Engineer to join their team.
This role is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing fiber optic cable products and their manufacturing processes to meet performance, quality, and cost objectives.
The ideal candidate will possess a background in fiber optic technologies, materials science, and manufacturing engineering, with a passion for innovation and process improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop new fiber optic products, components, and cable assemblies for manufacturing.
Create detailed engineering drawings, product specifications, and process documentation.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, production, quality, and supply chain to ensure manufacturability and scalability of designs.
Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for fiber optic cable production, including cabling, jacketing, splicing, termination, and testing.
Conduct feasibility studies, root cause analysis, and design validation testing.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives for product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and cost reduction.
Provide technical support for production and resolve product and process issues as needed.
Evaluate new materials, equipment, and technologies to enhance product performance and manufacturing capabilities.
Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., Telcordia, IEC, TIA/EIA) and customer requirements.
Participate in customer meetings, technical reviews, and provide engineering input for proposals and quotations.
Qualifications: Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Optical Engineering, or related field.
0 to 3+ years of experience in fiber optic product design, manufacturing engineering, or related field.
Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent).
Knowledge of fiber optic components, cable structures, and manufacturing processes.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
Preferred:
Experience with fiber optic testing, standards compliance, and reliability analysis.
Familiarity with Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or other process improvement methodologies.
Hands-on experience with extrusion, cabling, and termination processes.
